2nd Transnational meeting
All partners have reviewed their national teacher education system and related curricula. Except in Austria, none has found content dealing with appearance issues in the psychosocial training modules and there were only minor elements in education of related contents dealing with psychosocial issues, but not as a major topic. The general psychosocial issues are mostly touched in optional or specialized studies in partner countries, in courses which indirectly deal with the topic related to enhance self-esteem, depression, suicidal attitudes or health topics. Findings clearly indicate that there is a substantial need for in service training or courses in the field of negative body image and psychosocial problems connected with this. In the upcoming months, the partnership will develop a training pack with didactic guidelines for VET institutions throughout Europe, stakeholders in VET, businesses with apprentices and other interested parties to offer an alternative solution.
MIRROR, MIRROR - kicked off
Picture taken from a kick off presentation held by Dr. Persson
Well, we have just kicked off an EU co-funded project on the issue of negative body image and their impact on learning results in Stavanger, Norway, December 2013. Experts in related matters met with the project coordinator to discuss what the project wants to achieve and how the partners from Austria, Denmark, Portugal, Norway and the UK can contribute to this. Scientific research in the field of negative body image - including disfigurement - was presented by the research lead partner, University of the West of England. National research will follow to see the situation in partner countries in more details. During the next trans-national meeting, results will then be presented and shall help to develop training material for educators, showing them how to deal with issues of body image in their training sessions.
